Inventory Manager
Position Summary
The Inventory Manager is responsible for leading all inventory control functions across the distribution center to ensure inventory accuracy, product integrity, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. This position oversees inventory processes, cycle counting programs, reconciliation activities, inventory investigations, product traceability, and inventory-related compliance requirements. The Inventory Manager partners closely with Operations, Receiving, Fulfillment, Quality, Customer Success, and Finance teams to maintain accurate inventory records while supporting food safety, regulatory compliance, and client service expectations.
Responsibilities
Inventory Leadership & Strategy
- Develop, implement, and maintain inventory control policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Lead all inventory control operations to ensure inventory accuracy and product accountability.
- Establish inventory performance standards and continuously improve inventory processes.
- Manage inventory teams and inventory control personnel across all warehouse operations.
- Ensure inventory integrity throughout receiving, storage, fulfillment, shipping, and returns processes.
Inventory Accuracy & Reconciliation
- Oversee cycle counting programs and physical inventory activities.
- Monitor inventory transactions and system accuracy.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and identify root causes.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of inventory variances.
- Implement corrective actions to reduce inventory shrink and improve inventory accuracy.
- Maintain inventory adjustment controls and approval processes.
Inventory Control & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with inventory management procedures and customer requirements.
- Monitor lot control, product traceability, expiration dates, and FIFO compliance.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of products throughout warehouse operations.
- Support customer inventory audits and inventory reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate inventory documentation and recordkeeping.
Food Safety & Quality
- Ensure compliance with BRC, GMP, HACCP, food safety, and customer standards.
- Support product traceability and recall readiness programs.
- Monitor inventory practices that impact product quality and food safety.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to address inventory-related quality concerns.
- Ensure temperature-sensitive inventory is managed appropriately within cooler and freezer environments.
Leadership & Employee Development
- Lead, coach, and develop Inventory Supervisors, Inventory Leads, and Inventory Associates.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing employee development.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Develop cross-training programs to support operational flexibility.
- Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, and staffing needs.
Reporting & Analytics
- Develop and maintain inventory KPIs and reporting dashboards.
- Analyze inventory trends, losses, adjustments, and operational performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Present inventory performance metrics to leadership teams and customers as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Receiving, Fulfillment, Shipping, Operations, Finance, and Customer Success teams.
- Support onboarding of new customers and inventory implementation projects.
- Participate in process improvement and warehouse optimization initiatives.
- Assist with warehouse slotting, storage utilization, and inventory flow improvements.
Safety Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout inventory operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Participate in safety audits, inspections, and corrective action initiatives.
- Report and address unsafe conditions immediately.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong leadership and team development skills.
- Previous experience working in freezer conditions preferred
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and inventory accuracy.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in warehouse, cooler, and freezer environments.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel between facilities if required.
