Assistant Production Supervisor

Chicago, IL

$21.20/hr

Summary: Assists Supervisor to direct, oversee, and coordinate the operation of all departments in the plant in accordance with company policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets up machines and equipment.
  • Examines items produced to determine if items meet specifications.
  • Follows production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets specifications, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.

Responsibilities                                                 

  • Supervises up to 50 employees in all areas of the plant.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years previous experience as an Assistant Supervisor in the manufacturing industry preferred

Education and/or Experience                                               

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills                                             

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.

            Mathematical Skills                                                   

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability                                                      

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills                                             

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software and Internet software.
